The city mentioned several times in the Bible, Harran, near the Syrian border was an important Mesopotamian trade center once the home of the prophet Abraham. In this biblical town, during the summer, we’re talking about 55 degrees – during these photographs –, and people take the beds out of their houses to elevate them off the ground, painting them blue, reinforcing the belief that this color repels scorpions.

The caves of Bazda are the result of hundreds of years of stone extraction. They have immense tunnels that connect the surrounding cities of Harran, Shuayp, and Han al-Baurur, which were highly active passages in the 13th century. It is not known who built them. Some say they could be the largest in Anatolia.
