Mexico, Sagittarius, 1984. Visual Artist Jose Espínola works with both still and motion photography. He directs and produces video & photography, developing creative projects for brands, editorial publications as well as collaborations with designers and visual artists at Brutal Inc, a multidisciplinary studio founded by him in 2010.
Jose's academic background in Communications combined with a Degree in Graphic Design and Art Direction, lead him to find a strong visual aesthetic that sways between Documentary and Fine Art Photography.
In his work he uses the raw immediacy of images as a cognitive tool, exploring the correlation between eroticism, fashion, music and the social environment. He uses collective signifiers-memories to create compositions leading to strong imagery that reflects society and ourselves.
Driven to find stories where there doesn't seem to be one, with a solid vision of aesthetics, Jose establishes a sort of mutual understanding between his subjects and the atmospheres with captivating empathy, hunting the public's intimacy, evocating the private, and empowering he's characters.
His work has been published in several magazines such as: Wallpaper Magazine, Gup Magazine, Suitcase Magazine, Lensculture, P Magazine, I-D, Hotbook, F-Stop Magazine, Kaltbult Magazine, Código, Travesias, Animal, 192 Magazine, Sticks and Stones & Nakid Mag. Also he´s work has been exhibit in Taipei Contemporary Art Center.
